Today Capybara competition has occurred. We held it first time. During that competition, 21 participants connected online from 5 countries. Hope, that next time we will gather more and more students from all around the world!

Today Milton International School officially has published IB Math Workbook. They contain a lot of useful branches, such as: Rules and formulas, IA Writing tips, Templates for daily studies and error trackers, “How to bit stress” section and many others. Take advantage and order it before the School Year has been started.

🔹 Punctuality & Commitment
Sessions will commence promptly at the scheduled time. Please arrive a few minutes early to ensure we can make the most of every minute. Frequent cancellations or no-shows compromise the learning process — consistency is key to progress.

🔹 Cancellation Policy
To reschedule or cancel a session, I kindly request at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made later than this may be subject to a fee, as that time has been reserved exclusively for you.

🔹 Preparedness
Please come to each session with all relevant materials, questions, and a readiness to engage fully. Your active participation greatly enhances the effectiveness of our work.

🔹 Communication
Open, respectful communication is essential. If there’s ever a concern, a change in goals, or a need for additional support, I am always happy to adapt — just let me know.

🔹 Payment Terms
Invoices are issued monthly beforehand (or as agreed) and are due within the specified timeframe. Prompt payment ensures that sessions continue uninterrupted.

Лучший, не значит преданный, или как в России IBO запрещали

Интереснейшая ситуация, при том, что номер один школа в мире IB – Летово, в Москве 🤦‍♂️. И в то же время одна из самых передовых в России. Это не помешало Ген Прокуратуре придумать липовые и вообще далекие от жизни причины для признания IB нежелательной. Цитирую:

“Идеологи антироссийских проектов «назначили» организацию лидером международных общеобразовательных программ, позволяющих выпускникам поступить практически в любой вуз мира. Вниманию абитуриентов предлагаются около 5 тысяч университетов, расположенных в США, Канаде, Австралии, Великобритании и ряде других стран Европы.
На деле же цель НПО – форматирование российской молодежи по западным шаблонам. Суть обучения сводится к навязыванию своего видения исторических процессов, искажению общеизвестных фактов, антироссийской пропаганде, разжиганию межнациональной вражды.
С началом специальной военной операции учебные и методические пособия были скорректированы с учетом русофобской позиции коллективного Запада. В них появились призывы к международной изоляции нашей страны и материалы, дискредитирующие российскую армию.

Итак, обо всем по-порядку.

Как сертифицированный IB-учитель с многолетним опытом я хочу поделиться реальным взглядом изнутри:
🔹 IB (International Baccalaureate) – это международная образовательная программа, которая уже более 50 лет помогает детям по всему миру развиваться как личностям и как будущим профессионалам.
🔹 Основные ценности IB: критическое мышление, открытость, уважение к культурам, исследовательский подход, умение учиться всю жизнь.
🔹 IB не занимается политикой. Это философия образования, которая учит детей задавать вопросы, находить решения и видеть себя частью глобального мира.

1. IB никогда не ставила целью для себя форматирование молодежи РФ. Ни официально, ни не официально. Да, и просто логически – слишком много чести было бы для России это. Почему она не ставила себе такую цель в Китае, в Эмиратах? Или любой другой из 140 стран, где она присутствует? Странно, да странно…
2. Интересно о каких конкретно исторических процессах идет речь? Поскольку пока это звучит на том же уровне: “Ваня меня обидел, он дурак”. Где конкретика?
3. То же самое про факты…
4. IB изначально никогда не проводила бы пропаганду против любой страны. Она учит слышать и думать и найти причину, а не обвинить и отрицать. В том числе на счет Северной Кореи – учителя обучаются направлять мышление детей на то, чтобы они думали ни эмоциями, а головой: почему Северная Корея поступает так, а не иначе. Учит быть открытым к новым идеям, а не узко мыслить. В том числе на счет России, и признавать, что некоторые вещи Россия делает умно (например, валютная политика). IB создалась после Второй Мировой войны, родителями – дипломатами, которые хотели для своих детей лучшего, а не вновь войны через 15-20 лет. Они и придумали этот подход IB – быть миролюбивым гражданином мира, а не признавать одну нацию лучше и умнее другой, даже если она таковой является.
5. Как учитель IB, как в прочем и остальные 70000, я могу с точностью Вам сказать, что ни subject guide, ни учебники (которые редко используются в процессе учебы, это же вам не совок) не претерпели никаких изменений с начала СВО ни в одной дисциплине, с целью обвинить Россию. Какая же мерзкая ложь. А еще больший позор для тех, кто так может просто врать в глаза людям, которые не могут проверить достоверность информации.

Choosing the right mathematics course in the International Baccalaureate (IB) can feel overwhelming for both students and parents. Since 2019, the IB has offered two distinct math pathways: Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Applications and Interpretation (AI), each available at Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL).

This article breaks down the differences, provides concrete examples, and offers guidance for parents on how to support their child’s decision and success.

1. What’s the Big Picture?

• AI (Applications & Interpretation):
  This is “practical math for the real world.” It emphasizes statistics, modeling, technology, and interpreting data. It’s a better fit for students interested in social sciences, business, psychology, biology, or arts where math supports real-world applications.
• AA (Analysis & Approaches):
  Think of this as “traditional math.” It focuses on algebra, calculus, and abstract problem solving. It’s suited for students who enjoy theoretical thinking and may pursue mathematics, physics, computer science, or engineering.

2. SL vs HL: How Deep Do They Go?

• SL (Standard Level): Covers essential content in about 150 teaching hours.
• HL (Higher Level): Adds more depth and breadth with 240 teaching hours, preparing students for university courses requiring strong math backgrounds.

3. Concrete Examples: What Does This Look Like?

Example I: Calculus

• AA HL: Students might prove why the derivative of exex is exex using limits.
• AA SL: Students learn how to apply derivatives to optimize functions, like finding maximum profit.
• AI HL: Students may use derivatives in the context of modeling — for example, how the spread of a virus changes over time.
• AI SL: Students apply a calculator to interpret a rate of change graph from real data, such as the speed of a car.

Example II: Statistics

• AI HL: Students may run chi-squared tests or regression analysis on large datasets (e.g., predicting housing prices).
• AI SL: Students work with probability trees or calculate expected values (e.g., fairness in a board game).
• AA HL/SL: Covers statistics too, but in less depth; the focus is more on probability theory than real-world interpretation.

4. How to Decide Which Path Is Right

🔹 Guiding Questions for Parents to Ask:

• Does my child enjoy solving abstract problems (like puzzles)? → Consider AA.
• Does my child prefer seeing math in real-world contexts (like data, finance, or science experiments)? → Consider AI.
• Does my child plan to study engineering, physics, computer science, or mathematics? → AA HL is safest.
• Is my child aiming for business, social sciences, psychology, or life sciences? → AI SL or AI HL may be enough.

5. Advice for Parents

💡 Tip 1: Look at University Requirements
Many UK and EU universities explicitly ask for AA HL for STEM-heavy degrees (Engineering, Physics, Computer Science).
For Business, Psychology, or Social Sciences, AI HL or AA SL often meets requirements.

💡 Tip 2: Support with Resources

• For AA students: Encourage problem-solving practice without calculators.
• For AI students: Encourage exploring real data sets (sports stats, business trends).

💡 Tip 3: Mindset Matters
Students often feel pressure if friends pick “harder” math. Reassure them: both AA and AI are rigorous IB courses recognized by universities worldwide.

💡 Tip 4: IA (Internal Assessment) Projects

• In AA, students might explore the mathematics of fractals or proving identities.
• In AI, students might analyze how Instagram follower growth can be modeled or whether a dice game is fair.
  👉 Parents can help brainstorm topics connected to their child’s interests.
